engineering college in amaravathipudur!

When I did PUC in 1974, there were few engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. I was going to Annamalai University at Chidambaram for my degree in Engineering. I started travel by Steam Engined, "BOAT MAIL" and it got converted in to Dieseled Engine in 1976 or something like. It was a great distance for a village youth like me.
Now I found one " Raja Rajan Engineering" college at Amaravathipudur. I am not able to believe. Great leap for AMARAVATHIPUR.

Kamban Thiruvilla of Karaikudi

When I was young I noticed a Kamban Thiruvilla, was organized by one weell known person, Kamban Adi Podi. I was not fortunate to attend any of that programme. As I mentioned in other blog posting I was leading a lonelly life at Amaravathipudur in a compound named "Appar Illam".

Today I noticed two functions at Karaikudi.

World Tamil Writters is hosting 19th Annual Function at VKN Malligai, College Road, Karaikudi at 05 00 PM today.

The another one is being hosted by Tamilnadu Murpoku Eluthalar Kalaigar Sangam, the monthly Peravai Kootam. This is being held to day at 06 00 PM at

வி பெவ் ஒன்லி விசிடேத் அமராவதிபுதூர் Site

It is a surpraise to note only very few only visited this "Amaravathipudur" site. As I am also not a very pro blogger, it is a surpraise to me.

The blog world may not be working on a site over a small village tucked in south india.

A blog in cinima, computer, or even on a mobile phone might have attacted more trafic to this site.

And why I should look for more trafic, when decided to host a Site in tribute to my village? Not essential to count on trafic and write on "Amaravathipudur"

When I was a school boy I was thinking Karaikudi is 3 Kilometers away from Amaravathipudur, now I realised it is 8 or 10 kilometers away from Karaikudi.

It is very strange to see autos are there in Amaravathipudur. I used to go there by bullock cart, occasionally by bus. And many buses would hesitate to stop at Amaravathipur, they prefer to rush to Devakottai.

After I got admission in Annamalai University, and spent whole 5 years to earn my B E Mechanical engineering degree, I was starting to miss my Amaravathipu

1973-2013

I got the SSLC cleared from the SCGR Higher Secondary School in May 1973. So 40 years passed. It is very hard to believe that 40 years rolled.
The teachers of that era might have retired.
Two years back I had seen 'Suppan Annan' in the compass. He was able to recollect me.
After that my sister, Kanagamani was informing me that she too visited and I am not sure that she met him. She might have cleared SSLC, at least 6 or 7 years before me.
We miss AMARAVATHIPUR.

villangavantha amman

My house was very near to this villangavantha amman, in a lane.

Daily I was required to go around this temple at leat two or three times.

This temple was blessed with a old tree, we call it some 'bala maram' or some thing like that. It used to give some tiny fruit, we used to eat them. But we need to be careful with raw fruit, which ozees out a milky substance, a harmful substance.

We used to play in front of this temple, but at late seventies a water tank came and stolen the ground.

The lane near this temple was busy in seventies now it lost its glamour. Some what no one was using.

why only few visited Amaravathipur

It is a surpraise that only very few visited this site. I am not a blog savy guy to figure out answer.

And I need to look for trafic or keep write something in tribute to this village where I was born and lived through my childhood.

When I was a kid that I was thinking that Karaikudi is 3 or 4 kilometers away from my Amaravathipudur, now I realize it is 10 kilometers away.

I used to go to Karaikudi in bullock cart and some times by bus. Many buses would hesitate to stop at Amaravathipur, and rush to Devakottai.

Kanadasan studied in Gurukulam and me too!

When I got admission in Annamalaiuniversity, I was spending more time at Chidambaram, at hostel and started missing Amaravathipudur. After college, I went Visakhapatnam I started missing the village to a great extent.I was visiting once in two years and was pending few days only.

I was a loner, brought up in a compound had ver few friends, a perfect mechanism to loose grip over the roots, my Amaravathipudur.

Then my paents migrated to Thanjavur after living 60 plus years in Amaravathipur, we stated to visit only Thanjavur, and started to drift away from my village.

In 2006 visited for a day, walked in Gurukulam, only Suppan Annan was remembering me and met SP Radha and left.

Many may not remember Kanagamani my sister or me Kanagasabai.

SP RADHA

I started this BLOG but not up dated keenly. Few coments are there, even some one remembered me.

It is very sad, 10 days back I was in Amaravathipudur, to bid the final good bye to beloved SP Radha, who died on her way back from her trip to Amar Nath.

Please join with me to pray for her soul to rest in peace.

sudhanandham

Sudhanandham, how many of the persons from Amaravathipudur knows him? I have forgotten the year we lost him, but long back perhaps 40 years back.
He was a motherless child, a good boy with a dad who wanted a perfect boy, perfect means the perfect.
His dad kept quite lot of toys, were imported from Singapore and we all played but not Sudhanandham as he killed himself too early.
At latterstage I came accross Andal Pasurams and her life and the devotion to God. I learnt that she was having the habit of wearing the flowers before offer to God and be sure the right flower was offered to the God. So she was called, சூடி கொட்டுத்த சுடர் கொடி.
But Sudhanandham, still I feel the blows what you got from your dad as you smelled the flowers you brought to the temple.............. those beatings................................

gurukulam

Gurukulam was the heart of this village, Amaravathipudur.
A huge compound was encomposed this Gurukulam. It was also called SCGR High School.
As the school is living for many decades, the guys who studied in this school should be spreading their wings all around the world.
It was a beauty that this school was tucked in to this village!
Once my dad told me that he was teaching in this school from Karaikudi and used to visit this place for the construction of this school, in early 1920s.
why they built in Amaravathipudur?
In 1920s Karaikudi could easily give margin for this school.
May be, Alagappa Chettiar made the kingdoom in Karaikudi and Subramania Chettiar might have wanted a separate place to grow!
And you should know, this is a residential school!
But girls can join as days schooler and that girl should have the iron will to with stand the Headmaster, Thiruvikraman, who had a legendry treatment for girls.
I plan to write
  • Valliaappanan
  • kanakupillai Chockalingam
  • Iyya, manager iyya, suriamandai,( and my DAD)
  • Meelur iyya
  • Thirivikraman
  • Suppan
  • Mavati Mahalingam
  • Karuppan
  • Vaiandi
  • KRSG
  • Aruldass
  • Girlsroom
  • Toilet
  • Assembly
  • Garden
  • VPsir
  • and many

why this name?

why this name?
I have born in this village, Amaravathipudur. There ends all. I was moved out from this place. I am not able to imagine that what made my dad to live seventy plus years and move away to Thanjavur.
Recently I asked my friend about buy back our house, the compound. When I learnt that I need to fork out 50 00000, fifty lakhs Indian Rupees to do that, my heart broke.
I am finding very least, almost no presence of this village in the web world.
I am going to write a lot about this village, its people, places and all to my ability.
I am dreaming to visit this place and up load, huge photes, God will.
Let me start, wish many to join.
